In 2023, the number of members of the right-wing extremist party NPD was 2,800, this was a decrease compared the previous year. The party with the most members was the AfD at 11,300.

The "Bürgerbewegung pro NRW" ("pro NRW") was included in this overview from 2012 onwards. At the end of 2015, the local association "Bürgerbewegung pro Köln e.V." split off from „pro NRW“. Its members are now considered in the person potential of other right-wing extremist organisations. ** New admission as of 2014. *** The "Deutsche Volksunion" (DVU) definitively disbanded in the middle of 2012. **** Due to a significant development in 2007, the party "Die Republikaner" was no longer considered as right-wing extremist in the Annual Report on the Protection of the Constitution or in person potential. According to the source, the figures are rounded and partly based on estimates. The values for the years up until 2015 were taken from earlier editions of the Annual Report on the Protection of the Constitution.
The AfD has been officially suspected of extremism, and therefore it is allowed that the state monitor their activities and communications. Some people believe that this is also grounds to ban the party.
